Our Church
The Christian Unitarian Church was founded by Englishman Rev. John Bostock on Galveston Island, Texas after many years of soul searching and questioning the beliefs of the established religions. He discovered that many people had the same doubts and questions that he had and needed a new Church that would fulfill their needs. The Christian Unitarian Church was born.
Briefly described, The Christian Unitarian Church is, like other forms of Christianity, a religion that asserts the divine foundation of the teaching of Jesus. It places particular emphasis on reason, conscience, and free will in religion and uses contemporary methods to understand myths and symbols of the past. It is a progressive religion, founded on and patterned after the elemental Christianity of Jesus and his disciples. Like that model, it seeks ever to form surer and nobler understandings of God and of the world by a conscientious search for truth. It lays great stress on the ethical responsibility of individuals, of the Church, and of the human race.
The Christian Unitarian Church is distinguished from other Christian belief systems in four main respects:
1) the belief that human nature in its present condition is neither inherently corrupt nor depraved, but exactly as God created it and intended it to be from the beginning, capable of both good and evil. There is good in all people;
2) the conviction that no religion has a monopoly on God, or theological truth;
3) the belief that the Bible, while inspired of God, was written by humans at different times and in different languages and therefore is subject to human error;
4) the rejection of traditional doctrines that malign God’s character or veil the true nature and mission of Jesus, such as the doctrines of eternal damnation, purgatory and the Trinity.
Other belief systems may hold to one or more of these views, but The Christian Unitarian Church is unique in upholding all of them. Christian Unitarians have great respect for all forms of Christianity and other religions that believe in the One God, but are convinced that their Christianity best reflects Jesus’ own vision.

So What makes us different?
The Christian Unitarian Church believes in one God and follows the teachings of Jesus. Where it differs from other Christian Churches is that it is non-trinitarian and does not pray to icons or anyone other than God. Nor does it use intermediaries in prayer, or pray in anyone else's name. Please do not confuse us with the Unitarian Universalist movement, as we differs from them by remaining Christian in our core beliefs. We believe that each person is a free spirit capable of making their own decisions and forming their own beliefs.
1) We are Christian as we follow the teachings of Jesus;
2) We are Unitarian as we are non-trinitarian;
3) We are a Free Church as we are not subject to the control of any other Church or denomination.
Our Confession:
We believe in one God, the Creator and Preserver of all things.
We believe in Jesus, the greatest teacher of God's message,
his teachings and life form the standard of our faith and practice,
and that the holy spirit is not a separate entity but the influence of God within us.
We believe in the divine element in conscience,
in free will and the responsibility that comes with it,
in the inspiration and sanctity of Scripture,
in the forgiveness of sins,
in God's universal love for all humankind,
and in the future advancement of the whole human family to holiness and happiness. We believe in the Christian Unitarian Church.
